I was so honored to take the lead in design and execution for a golf themed executive retirement party. I have always been able to contribute creative ideas to events, galas, and fundraisers (I have sat on a few boards for non-profit organizations), but this was the first time that I was given free reign to do whatever I pleased. The budget for the event was approximately $10,000.00. The honoree wanted the event to be located at his home golf course, Whitewater Country Club in Fayetteville, Georgia.
It was important for the invitation to set the excitement for the event, and it also needed to follow the golf theme. I designed a 5×7 gate fold invitation for the main dinner and programming. The gentlemen that were invited to play golf with the honoree that morning received an extra special 5×5 circle invitation that was designed to look like a golf ball. The invitations were placed in an invitation box that was lined with green turf.
Each of the gentlemen that played golf with the honoree that morning was given a customized Yeti tumbler as a gift. I really enjoy designing promotional items, so this was a fun item to incorporate into the party. Inside the tumbler was a sleeve of Titleist Pro V1’s and a handful to tees.
The table decor was fun to do. I made custom golf ball centerpieces out of stadium horns and honeycomb tissue balls. I grew real wheat grass for the tee boxes, but it was not at its full potential until 3 days following the event. Luckily, Hobby Lobby had their Easter products already on the shelves, so I was able to purchase some 10×10 squares of synthetic grass. The buffet table centerpiece was made from a real antique golf bag and clubs. It was definitely a statement piece and turned out beautifully.
